Community Providers

OPOR will have a tremendous impact and reach across the healthcare system in Nova Scotia. Part of this implementation includes the OPOR Provider Portal for community providers.

Provider Portal will be available for community providers across the province when the OPOR-CIS is live, giving access to real-time patient information to providers in a patient’s circle of care.

The OPOR Provider Portal is a clinical viewer that will be integrated with the new OPOR-CIS, and the current health information systems used by IWK Health and Nova Scotia Health.

The OPOR Provider Portal will eventually replace SHARE, providing enhanced functionality and new features making it easier for you to support patient care. Work is underway to develop education and learning resources for Provider Portal that will be available for all users.

Physicians, providers, and clinicians who provide care outside IWK Health or Nova Scotia Health (including those who provide care internally and externally) are required to register for a Provider Portal account. We encourage you to become familiar with the system ahead of the OPOR-CIS implementation, helping you get comfortable with the technology.

Here are some key points about Provider Portal:

  • The read-only application includes clinical patient information about admissions, discharges, and transfers from provincial healthcare systems, as well as medical reports and results for lab tests and diagnostic imaging.
  • Provide Portal will have embedded access to the Drug Information System, Nova Scotia Health Central Zone’s OneContent, as well as the Provincial PACS image viewer.
  • Patient information from January 2023 onwards will be available through Provider Portal.
  • Patient information prior to January 2023 will be accessible through SHARE.
  • No decisions have been made on when SHARE will be discontinued. Existing users are encouraged to switch to Provider Portal for new patient information going forward to become familiar with the new system.
  • Authorized healthcare physicians, providers, and clinicians at IWK Health and Nova Scotia Health sites, and in the community, may access consolidated health records for Nova Scotians using the OPOR Provider Portal.
  • Physicians and clinicians from across Nova Scotia were involved in designing and testing Provider Portal for community providers, ensuring it meets the needs of healthcare teams and patients.
