Provider Portal Access

Requesting access to the OPOR Provider Portal is different for users who exclusively work within IWK Health or Nova Scotia Health, and those who work exclusively in the community (ie: private clinics, pharmacies, etc.), or those who work in both environments. If you already have an account but need support, visit our Help page.

OPOR manages the access request process, and IWK Health and Nova Scotia Health managers or leadership determine eligibility. Physicians, providers and clinicians interested in using Provider Portal should speak with their managers and/or leadership about obtaining access. Access for IWK Health and Nova Scotia Health clinical users and employees is requested using the organization’s IT Self-Service module. All OPOR Provider Portal users must register through a different process and user agreement, which includes the review of privacy statements.

IWK Health & Nova Scotia Health Users

Physician Users

Community Users

Who are “internal users”?

Provider Portal users are employees of IWK Health or Nova Scotia Health are “internal users” and will register with their organizational email address. These are providers who are not only employees, but they exclusively work within IWK Health or Nova Scotia Health.

Who are “physician users”?

Physicians often work within an organization, and in their own private clinics. They are typically not “employees” and may practice in multiple sites and clinics. For example, a plastic surgeon who works for Nova Scotia Health, but also has a private clinic.

Who are “community users”?

Users who work both inside IWK Health or Nova Scotia Health, and outside. Users who work outside of IWK Health or Nova Scotia Health in their own private clinics are “community users.” For example, a family physician who has a community practice.

How to register

Internal users must register for Provider Portal using the IWK Health and Nova Scotia Health IT Self-Service page.

IWK Health and Nova Scotia Health IT Self-Serve

Physician users need to register for Provider Portal and can use their organizational email address.

They will only require one account and can use this same account when practicing outside of IWK Health or Nova Scotia Health. For example, that same plastic surgeon creates their account using their Nova Scotia Health email address but can use the same account when they are in their private clinic.

Physician users require a modern web browser to access OPOR Provider Portal. They will not need to remember a new password. This is accomplished using Microsoft Azure Business to Business (B2B). Click here to learn more about Business to Business (B2B) and ‘Bring Your Own Identity’.

Community users are required to create an account with their own email address. Users require a modern web browser to access OPOR Provider Portal. They do not require an IWK Health or Nova Scotia Health email address or VPN.

Why would physicians want to use Provider Portal when working at IWK Health or Nova Scotia Health?

Provider Portal will give physicians visibility to patient information when they are working outside of an IWK Health or Nova Scotia Health site. Also, for physicians who only practice in the community, this is how they will view patient information from IWK Health and Nova Scotia Health.

Until all IWK Health and Nova Scotia Health sites and zones are using the OPOR-CIS, Provider Portal will allow users to view patient information from the OPOR-CIS. Between implementations, it will be a useful tool for physicians not yet using the OPOR-CIS. For example, if a physician in Western Zone has a patient who is seen in Central Zone before they are using the OPOR-CIS, they can see their patient’s information from their visit in Central Zone where the OPOR-CIS is in use.

Community users will not need to remember a new password. This is accomplished using Microsoft Azure Business to Business (B2B). Click here to learn more about Business to Business (B2B) and ‘Bring Your Own Identity’.
