Transforming Healthcare Together: OPOR Site Visit Success Story
In an era where access to healthcare information is crucial, Nova Scotia has taken significant steps forward with its digital healthcare transformation initiatives. Centralizing health records for everyone ensures comprehensive care and promotes efficient healthcare delivery for patients and providers alike. An instrumental component for ensuring the successful socialization of OPOR and other digital initiatives has been the province-wide health facility site visits. Groups of OPOR teams have travelled across the province to engage with healthcare providers, workers, and volunteers (see Appendix A for a full list of sites visited so far). These visits have played a pivotal role in delivering information and increasing visibility and transparency around OPOR in Nova Scotia. Plans are underway to create a strategy to support the continuation of site visits.
Promoting Awareness and Understanding
Site visits have proven to be an effective means of raising awareness and understanding among healthcare professionals, providers, workers, and volunteers. Team members had the opportunity to discuss and put into action a feedback loop for information gathering and sharing, improving understanding and trust in the OPOR team.
Driving Collaboration and Knowledge Exchange
Site visits also served as a platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange. The visits encouraged interdisciplinary collaboration, promoted innovative thinking, and inspired conversations around digital health transformation initiatives.
Virtual Townhalls
While the in-person site visits were great for engagement, virtual environments and spaces to meet are beneficial to the nature of healthcare and improve accessibility. This accessibility is important in disseminating information to a wide audience, transcending physical boundaries, and accommodating individuals with varying schedules and commitments. Moreover, virtual townhalls fostered an inclusive environment and allowed participants to voice their thoughts, ask questions, and actively contribute to the conversation. Townhalls were provided in Northern Zone, Eastern Zone, and Western Zone.
Moving Forward
Site visits have proven to be instrumental in the success of OPOR so far. By utilizing this approach, we have effectively raised awareness and engaged healthcare providers, workers, and volunteers. As Nova Scotia continues to embrace OPOR, these site visits will play a vital role in maintaining momentum, fostering a unified approach to healthcare transformation, and ultimately improving healthcare in Nova Scotia. By coordinating with site leads and key contacts across the province, we intend to make site visits a regular occurrence, with rounds of the province scheduled every four months. We are eager to continue implementing engagement initiatives and collaborating with other digital health initiatives across the province.
